Sixty golfers are set to compete in the Swire Shipping 42nd Fiji Senior Golf Open, which starts today at the Fiji Golf Club in Vatuwaqa. This three-day tournament is expected to be thrilling, featuring a number of overseas participants.

Susan Yee, the association secretary, noted that a robust turnout of senior players aged 55 and older is anticipated for this year’s event. Yee mentioned, “New champions will emerge in all three categories since last year’s defending champions will not be competing.”

The defending men’s champion PC Goundar from Australia, ladies’ champion Lyndall Fisher, and over 70’s champion Ishwar Nand will all be absent this year, providing an opportunity for past winners like RN Goundar, Robert Li, Alipate Vosaicake, Marica Margetts, and Agnes Fong Toy to vie for their titles again. In the over 70’s category, Thiphait Hussein is anticipated to be a formidable competitor for the Akbar trophy, given his impressive recent performances.

The tournament spans three days and will wrap up on Thursday with a Prize Giving and Dinner event at Yue Lai Restaurant in Flagstaff. The Swire Shipping 42nd Fiji Senior Golf Open is expected to showcase fierce competition for the prestigious trophies among participants.
