New CEO Takes Helm at Fiji Roads Authority: Who is Apisai Ketenilagi?

Apisai Ketenilagi has been appointed as the new Chief Executive of the Fiji Roads Authority, a decision that will take effect on January 2, 2025, and will last for a term of three years. This appointment was made by the FRA Board in accordance with the Fiji Roads Authority (FRA) Act of 2012.

To ensure the recruitment of the most qualified candidate, the FRA Board’s Procurement Department enlisted the help of KPMG during the selection process. The position was publicly advertised as part of the FRA’s recruitment policy, and Ketenilagi was chosen by a panel of three FRA Board Members following a series of interviews.

With an impressive background of over 30 years in road infrastructure engineering, Ketenilagi has played a crucial role in projects involving highways, rural roads, bridges, marine structures, construction, and asset maintenance. His academic credentials are notable; he has a Master of Science in Highway Management and Engineering, an International Master’s in Public Administration, a Bachelor of Engineering, and a Diploma in Civil Engineering. Furthermore, he is a recognized member of professional engineering institutions across Australia, the UK, the USA, Asia, and Australasia.

FRA Board Chairman, Atunaisa Nayago, expressed strong confidence in Ketenilagi’s capability, stating, “He brings with him a wealth of experience and expertise to this pivotal role, given his distinguished career in infrastructure development and management, making him the ideal choice to lead FRA into the future.” Nayago further noted the Board’s belief that Ketenilagi would enhance FRA’s performance and commitments to providing safe and sustainable infrastructure in Fiji. The Board congratulated Ketenilagi on his appointment and looks forward to collaborating with him to accomplish new milestones.

In a time of evolving infrastructure challenges, Ketenilagi’s extensive background and proven expertise will be instrumental in guiding the FRA towards innovative solutions that benefit the people of Fiji. His leadership could potentially pave the way for advancements that enhance the region’s infrastructure and, by extension, its economic development.
