The Fiji Bitter Wairiki Sevens tournament is poised to introduce innovative changes this year. The tournament was officially launched at Paradise Beverages Fiji Ltd’s headquarters in Suva.
A significant update to this year’s Wairiki Sevens format is the addition of under-15 to U18 categories, excluding Netball and Volleyball. This initiative aims to enhance grassroots player development on the island, fostering young talent in the sport.
The tournament anticipates participation from 32 men’s teams and 12 women’s teams, showcasing a robust competition. Mark Spencer, General Manager of Paradise Beverages, highlighted the value of their 17-year partnership, which has been instrumental in supporting these events.
The Nacula Yasawa Sevens is scheduled for December 6-7 at Churchill Park in Lautoka, while the Wairiki Sevens will take place from December 11-14 at the Wairiki grounds in Taveuni.
These tournaments not only serve as a platform for seasoned players but also provide young athletes with an opportunity to shine. The focus on youth development suggests a bright future for rugby in Fiji, inspiring a new generation of players.
