A new 30-seater catamaran named Gosal Cruisers is set to be launched at the Grand Eastern Hotel in Labasa, marking a significant step forward for local tourism and commerce on Vanua Levu, Fiji’s second-largest island. Owned by Charan Jeath Singh, a prominent business figure and Sugar minister, the catamaran arrived in a container from China and is the first of its kind for the island.
Mr. Singh expressed optimism about the impact of the vessel, stating that it will foster increased activity for local communities, allowing them to sell food and cultural products that can enhance their livelihoods. He referred to the catamaran as an early Christmas gift for the residents of Vanua Levu, with its launch scheduled for December 20, just in time for the holiday season.
The $1 million vessel is set to operate as a day cruise service, departing daily at 9:30 AM from the Grand Eastern Hotel jetty. It will offer sightseeing tours and cultural exchanges at various locations, including Kia, Mali, Druadrua, Vorovoro, Savusavu, and nearby islands. With a crew capacity of three and a cruising speed of approximately 35 knots, the Gosal Cruisers promises to enhance the tourism experience in the region.
