A new 30-seater catamaran is set to be launched at the Grand Eastern Hotel in Labasa, aiming to enhance tourism and commerce on Fiji’s second-largest island, Vanua Levu. The vessel, named Gosal Cruisers and valued at $1 million, was brought in from China and is the first of its kind for the region.

Charan Jeath Singh, a prominent business leader and the Sugar Minister, emphasized that this initiative will provide opportunities for local residents to offer food and cultural experiences, significantly contributing to their livelihoods. “It will create much activity for people on the islands,” he stated. Singh expressed his excitement, referring to the launch as an “early Christmas present” for the community, with services slated to commence on December 20, just in time for the holiday season.

Gosal Cruisers will operate daily excursions, departing from the Grand Eastern Hotel jetty at 9:30 AM for sightseeing and cultural exchanges to various locations including Kia, Mali, Druadrua, Vorovoro, Savusavu, and adjacent small islands. The catamaran can accommodate a crew of three and boasts a cruising speed of approximately 35 knots.

This development not only showcases a commitment to boosting local tourism but also reflects a positive trajectory for community engagement and economic growth in the area. The anticipated daily cruises may attract more visitors, promoting cultural connections and stimulating the local economy.

Overall, this new venture promises to bring excitement and opportunity to the residents and visitors of Vanua Levu, enhancing their experience of Fiji’s natural beauty and rich culture.
