A new 30-seater catamaran named Gosal Cruisers is set to launch at the Grand Eastern Hotel in Labasa, which aims to enhance local tourism and commerce on Fiji’s second-largest island, Vanua Levu. This initiative is significantly backed by Charan Jeath Singh, the owner and a prominent business leader as well as Fiji’s Sugar Minister.
The vessel, valued at approximately $1 million, arrived in a container from China and marks the first of its kind for the region. Singh pointed out that the catamaran will stimulate local economic activity by providing opportunities for residents to offer food and cultural items, thereby improving their livelihoods. He expressed that this project serves as a special early Christmas gift for the people of Vanua Levu, with a launch date set for December 20, 2023, right in time for the festive season.
Gosal Cruisers will operate daily trips from the Grand Eastern Hotel jetty, departing at 9:30 AM for day cruises that include sightseeing and cultural exchanges with various locations such as Kia, Mali, Druadrua, Vorovoro, Savusavu, and nearby small islands. The catamaran can reach cruising speeds of around 35 knots with a crew of three, ensuring a comfortable and efficient experience for passengers.
This new venture promises to boost the local economy while providing residents with a unique opportunity to share their culture and hospitality with visitors. It signifies a positive step forward in promoting tourism in the area, creating a ripple effect of benefits for the community.
In summary, the launch of Gosal Cruisers is anticipated to elevate both the tourism sector and the livelihoods of the local people in Vanua Levu, contributing to a vibrant economic environment and enhancing the cultural exchange between visitors and residents.
