A 30-seater catamaran, named Gosal Cruisers, is set to launch at the Grand Eastern Hotel in Labasa, promising to enhance local tourism and commerce on Fiji’s second-largest island, Vanua Levu. Owned by business leader and Sugar Minister Charan Jeath Singh, the vessel is the first of its kind in this region and arrived in a container from China.

Mr. Singh expressed his enthusiasm for the catamaran, emphasizing its potential to stimulate economic activities for local communities. He mentioned that it will allow island residents to offer food and cultural items, creating new income opportunities. “It’s an early Christmas present for the people of Vanua Levu,” he stated, highlighting that the service will officially commence on December 20, just in time for the festive season.

The Gosal Cruisers, valued at $1 million, will offer daily day cruises departing from the Grand Eastern Hotel jetty at 9:30 am. Passengers can look forward to sightseeing and cultural exchanges at several scenic locations, including Kia, Mali, Druadrua, Vorovoro, Savusavu, and other nearby islands. The catamaran will be staffed by a crew of three and has a cruising speed of approximately 35 knots.

This development not only marks a significant addition to the local tourism landscape but also presents an opportunity for residents to engage more deeply with the growing tourism sector. The introduction of Gosal Cruisers heralds a positive shift for the economy of Vanua Levu, fostering community togetherness and cultural expression.

In summary, the launch of Gosal Cruisers is a promising initiative aimed at boosting tourism and economic growth on Vanua Levu, ensuring that both locals and travelers can enjoy the beauty and culture of the region, particularly as the holiday season approaches.
