New Caledonia triumphed over Tahiti with a 3-1 victory, securing their place in the semifinals of the OFC U-16 Women’s Championship in Suva.
Kinë Hmaen, a key player for New Caledonia, opened the scoring in the 36th minute after taking advantage of a defensive error from Tahiti. The Tahitian team attempted to respond swiftly, but Lydie Gendron failed to convert a significant chance.
Following the halftime break, Tahiti sought to equalize but saw a goal attempt from Kunuhei disallowed for offside. As the game progressed, the Tahitian captain, Maerehia Dehors, came close with a shot from distance that went narrowly wide.
In the 69th minute, New Caledonia increased their lead when substitute Bernadette Nyikeine scored, assisted by Hmaen. Tahiti then managed to reduce the deficit in the 73rd minute when Vaiuta Pani scored confidently after breaking through in a one-on-one against New Caledonia’s goalkeeper, Elizabeth Aben.
Despite their determined efforts late in the game, Tahiti could not find an equalizer. Hmaen put the result beyond doubt in the 81st minute with a spectacular volley, marking the conclusion of a convincing 3-1 win for New Caledonia and a well-earned advancement in the tournament.
