New Caledonia triumphed over Tahiti with a score of 3-1, securing their place in the semifinals of the OFC U-16 Women’s Championship in Suva.
Kinë Hmaen, a pivotal figure in New Caledonia’s offense, opened the scoring in the 36th minute by capitalizing on a defensive error from Tahiti. Following this, Tahiti sought to respond, but Lydie Gendron missed a key opportunity to equalize.
In the second half, Tahiti attempted to get back on level terms, but a goal from Kunuhei was disallowed due to an offside call. As time progressed, Tahiti’s captain Maerehia Dehors took a shot from distance that narrowly missed the target.
New Caledonia doubled their lead in the 69th minute when substitute Bernadette Nyikeine found the net, thanks to an excellent setup by Hmaen. Tahiti managed to reduce the deficit shortly after, with Vaiuta Pani scoring in the 73rd minute after winning a one-on-one against New Caledonia’s goalkeeper, Elizabeth Aben.
Despite their late efforts, Tahiti could not secure another goal. Hmaen then put the game out of reach in the 81st minute with a remarkable volley, sealing a 3-1 victory for New Caledonia and ensuring their advancement in the tournament.
