New Caledonia secured a place in the semifinals of the OFC U-16 Women’s Championship in Suva by defeating Tahiti 3-1. The match witnessed Kinë Hmaen as a key player for New Caledonia, breaking the scoreless tie in the 36th minute by exploiting a defensive error from Tahiti.
Tahiti quickly sought to respond but struggled to find the back of the net, with Lydie Gendron missing a crucial chance. Following halftime, Tahiti attempted to level the match but Kunuhei’s shot was ruled offside.
As the second half continued, captain Maerehia Dehors of Tahiti aimed from distance, but her effort went just wide. New Caledonia increased their lead in the 69th minute when substitute Bernadette Nyikeine scored, assisted by Hmaen.
Tahiti managed to reduce the deficit four minutes later when Vaiuta Pani scored after an impressive one-on-one against New Caledonia’s goalkeeper, Elizabeth Aben. However, despite their late surge, Tahiti could not equalize.
Hmaen effectively put the game out of reach in the 81st minute with a remarkable volley, which many are calling the goal of the tournament, culminating in a 3-1 victory for New Caledonia.
