New Caledonia Stuns Tahiti with a 3-1 Victory in OFC U-16 Women’s Championship

New Caledonia secured a spot in the semifinals of the OFC U-16 Women’s Championship in Suva with a 3-1 victory over Tahiti. The team’s main striker, Kinë Hmaen, broke the deadlock in the 36th minute after capitalizing on a defensive error from Tahiti.

Though Tahiti quickly sought to find an equalizer, their efforts were thwarted, including a missed opportunity by Lydie Gendron. Following halftime, Tahiti had another chance to equalize, but Kunuhei’s goal was disallowed for offside.

As the second half unfolded, Tahiti attempted long-range shots, and captain Maerehia Dehors came close with a shot that went just wide. Meanwhile, New Caledonia doubled their lead in the 69th minute when substitute Bernadette Nyikeine scored, assisted by Hmaen.

Tahiti managed to score four minutes later with a goal from Vaiuta Pani, who successfully navigated a one-on-one situation against New Caledonia’s goalkeeper, Elizabeth Aben. Despite this effort, they could not turn the match around. Hmaen capped the game with a remarkable volley in the 81st minute, solidifying the 3-1 victory for New Caledonia and ensuring their advancement in the tournament.
