New Caledonia secured a place in the semifinals of the OFC U-16 Women’s Championship in Suva after defeating Tahiti 3-1.
The match saw Kinë Hmaen, a key player for New Caledonia, break the deadlock in the 36th minute by taking advantage of a defensive error from Tahiti. Although Tahiti quickly sought an equalizer, Lydie Gendron was unable to convert a favorable chance.
In the second half, Tahiti had another opportunity to score, but Kunuhei’s attempt was ruled offside. As the game continued, Tahiti’s captain Maerehia Dehors came close with a long-range effort that went just wide.
New Caledonia increased their advantage in the 69th minute when substitute Bernadette Nyikeine scored, courtesy of an assist from Hmaen. Shortly after, Tahiti narrowed the gap when Vaiuta Pani scored after outmaneuvering New Caledonia’s goalkeeper, Elizabeth Aben.
Despite their efforts to find another goal, Tahiti couldn’t change the outcome. Hmaen sealed the match in the 81st minute with a remarkable volley, marking a standout moment in the tournament and securing a 3-1 victory for New Caledonia.
