New Caledonia achieved a 3-1 victory over Tahiti, securing their spot in the semifinals of the OFC U-16 Women’s Championship in Suva.
Kinë Hmaen, the standout player for New Caledonia, broke the deadlock in the 36th minute, taking advantage of a defensive error from Tahiti. Despite a quick response from Tahiti, Lydie Gendron failed to convert a key opportunity to equalize.
In the second half, Tahiti had a chance to level the score, but Kunuhei’s attempt was deemed offside. As the half progressed, Tahiti continued to press, with captain Maerehia Dehors narrowly missing the target with a long-range shot.
New Caledonia doubled their lead in the 69th minute when substitute Bernadette Nyikeine scored, assisted by Hmaen. Just four minutes later, Tahiti narrowed the gap with a goal from Vaiuta Pani, who confidently beat New Caledonia’s goalkeeper, Elizabeth Aben, in a one-on-one situation.
However, despite their efforts, Tahiti could not equalize. Hmaen struck again in the 81st minute with a spectacular volley, securing a 3-1 win and a well-earned spot in the semifinals.
