New Caledonia triumphed over Tahiti with a score of 3-1, securing their place in the semifinals of the OFC U-16 Women’s Championship in Suva. The match saw Kinë Hmaen, a key player in the New Caledonian attack, break the deadlock in the 36th minute, taking advantage of a defensive error from Tahiti.
Tahiti responded promptly but failed to equalize, with Lydie Gendron missing a vital chance. After the break, Tahiti pressed for a goal, but Kunuhei’s attempt was ruled offside. As the second half continued, Tahiti attempted shots from outside the box, with their captain Maerehia Dehors coming close but shooting just wide.
New Caledonia doubled their lead in the 69th minute when substitute Bernadette Nyikeine scored, thanks to a well-placed assist from Hmaen. Tahiti fought back just four minutes later, with Vaiuta Pani scoring after winning a one-on-one against New Caledonia’s goalkeeper, Elizabeth Aben. Despite their efforts, Tahiti couldn’t level the score.
Hmaen capped off the match with a breathtaking volley in the 81st minute, securing the 3-1 victory for New Caledonia and marking a memorable performance in the tournament.
