Five new bus shelters have been recently constructed and are now operational in the Central Eastern Division of Fiji, aimed at enhancing safety and comfort for commuters, especially school children and families living in expanding residential areas.
The shelters are strategically located at the following sites:
– Verata Ucunivanua, Tailevu – near Vunibokoi District School
– Naitutu Sote, Waidalice, Tailevu – adjacent to Waidalice Primary School
– Toga Road, Rewa – close to Toga District School
– Vuci Road, Nausori – near Sila Central College
– Nadali Bypass Road, Nausori – along the Nadali Bypass corridor
The Fiji Roads Authority (FRA) has confirmed that the shelters were erected in response to the increasing demand for safer and more accessible public transport options in rural and peri-urban communities. By placing the shelters near schools, they provide essential protection against the weather during daily travels for children and their families.
A spokesperson from the FRA stated, “These new bus shelters support our goal of building resilient, community-centered infrastructure across Fiji. They serve not only as transport waiting areas but also as part of a larger effort to improve quality of life in our rapidly developing communities.”
As part of an ongoing initiative to enhance public infrastructure, the FRA encourages the local population to help protect these new facilities by keeping them clean and free from damage or graffiti. This call to action emphasizes community involvement in maintaining public assets for the benefit of all.
These developments are part of a broader national infrastructure upgrade initiative aimed at improving connectivity, accessibility, and commuter safety throughout the country. With such proactive measures, there is a hopeful outlook for the future of public transport in Fiji, as new infrastructure like these bus shelters can significantly enhance the daily commuting experience for many.
