Viliame Magitilailai is eagerly anticipating the start of his secondary school experience at Marist Brothers High School (MBHS) this year. Hailing from Tokou Village in the district of Nasinu, Ovalau, Magitilailai was honored as the dux at Marist Convent School in Levuka last year.

Receiving this prestigious award made for a bittersweet farewell as he bids goodbye to Levuka to embark on this new chapter in Suva. Alongside him, his peer Gabriel Rarawa from Visoto Village in Lovoni has also been accepted at MBHS.

Annie Robinson, the Sales and Marketing manager at Fiji Times and an alumna of Marist Convent, served as the chief guest at the school’s prizegiving ceremony. She commended the students and teachers for their accomplishments during the academic year and extended her best wishes to the Year 8 graduates as they prepare for their transition to secondary education.

Established in 1882, MBHS has a long history of educating notable Fijians, including the late Tui Nayau and former president Ratu Kamisese Mara, as well as Marama Bale na Roko Tui Dreketi, Ro Teimumu Kepa. Last year, Marist Convent had a school roll of 329, providing quality education to many among the youth of Ovalau Island, with 45 Year 8 students graduating.

This encouraging narrative highlights the educational journey of young Fijians and underlines the important role that established institutions play in shaping the future generations.

Summary: Viliame Magitilailai, the dux of Marist Convent School, looks forward to starting secondary school at Marist Brothers High School. Also accepted is Gabriel Rarawa. The school’s strong educational history and support from alumni, like Annie Robinson, symbolize a bright future for the young graduates transitioning to the next phase of their education.
