Acting Police Commissioner Juki Fong Chew expressed strong confidence in the capabilities of Rusiate Tudravu, the newly appointed Commissioner of Police, who is set to take office on February 3. Fong Chew called upon the officers to extend the same level of support to Tudravu as they did to him during his acting tenure.
Fong Chew praised Tudravu’s experience and his unique perspective, which he has gained from both his former role as a police officer and his time observing the force from the outside. “He’s a former policeman. He acted as commissioner before. Now he’s coming in with a fresh mindset,” he noted, emphasizing the importance of team support moving forward.
As Fong Chew prepares to take leave after his acting role, he thanked the police force for their support during a challenging, yet transformative, two-year period for both the government and the police organization. He acknowledged the hurdles they faced together, stating, “We managed to overcome the issues together.”
He concluded by highlighting the need to focus on serving the people of Fiji diligently while fostering a collaborative environment under Tudravu’s leadership in this new chapter for the Fiji Police Force.
This transition promises to be a moment of rejuvenation for the police force, as it moves forward with a leader who not only has firsthand experience but also an outsider’s clarity which could lead to innovative changes for the betterment of the community. The anticipation surrounding this shift bodes well for the future of policing in Fiji.
