The recent inauguration of the $29 million Ba Court complex is a significant development for the local judiciary and the community it serves. Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka officially opened the facility, symbolizing the government’s strong commitment to promoting the rule of law and ensuring that all citizens have fair access to justice.
During the opening, Mr. Rabuka emphasized the importance of justice as a right under the law, stating that this new complex represents a major achievement in enhancing judicial services. With state-of-the-art amenities, the Ba Court is expected to alleviate the existing caseload, allowing for more efficient handling of legal matters.
The new court will serve not only Ba but also the surrounding areas of Tavua, Rakiraki, and various interior regions, drastically improving accessibility for local residents who previously had to travel to Lautoka for High Court services. Acting Chief Justice Honorable Justice Salesi Temo was commended for his vision in establishing a High Court within the new facility.
Mr. Rabuka reiterated that every citizen has the right to seek justice, and he expressed optimism about the judiciary’s ongoing improvements in meeting its constitutional responsibilities. The Ba Court will be responsible for handling appeals involving various legal matters, including civil, criminal, and family court cases.
The Prime Minister concluded by underlining the importance of collective efforts in fostering sustainable development, emphasizing a shared vision for a prosperous future for Fiji. The opening of the Ba Court complex not only enhances judicial capabilities but also stands as a beacon of hope for a more accessible and equitable justice system.
This development can lead to a brighter future, where more people feel empowered to seek the justice they deserve, thereby fostering a stronger, more resilient society.
