Northern New City Tourism Development Pte Limited is launching an ambitious multi-million-dollar tourism development project in Korovatu, Labasa. This attractive site, situated near the Korovatu picnic area, offers stunning views of Mali Island and Malau. The initiative was recently visited by Manoa Kamikamica, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Trade, Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, and Communications.

Ma Xianlin, managing director of Northern New City Tourism Development and a tourism developer from China, has big plans for the area. After being inspired by his first visit to Fiji as a tourist in 2018, he purchased the expansive 151-acre land in 2022. Xianlin expressed gratitude to Investment Fiji for their support in this venture.

The project has already allocated approximately $5 million towards initial development stages, which include significant upgrades to the site. Plans for the project consist of constructing a hotel, resort, guest house, cantilever swimming pool, mini cable car, mountain-top steps, and other tourism-related attractions aimed at enhancing creative activities for visitors. The development will unfold in phases over approximately five years.

Mr. Kamikamica praised the progress made thus far, noting the exceptional views offered by the elevated location. He expressed happiness that the local population would soon enjoy enhanced tourism experiences similar to those found abroad. Kamikamica offered Mr. Xianlin support from the government should he require any assistance moving forward.

This development has the potential to boost the local economy while enriching the tourism landscape in Vanua Levu. It reflects a promising collaboration between local and international partners, which can lead to increased job opportunities and enhanced cultural exchange in the region.
