Rosi Doviverata, president of the Fiji Media Association, has called upon members of the media to ensure that fear never silences their vital voice in representing Fiji. Her remarks came during the Fiji Achievement in Media Excellence Awards (FAME Awards) held at the Novotel in Lami on Saturday night.
Doviverata expressed gratitude to her colleagues for standing firm in their commitment to truth, highlighting the considerable obstacles faced over the past 16 years under the governance of Frank Bainimarama. “So to newsrooms represented here tonight, to every editor, photographer, designer, producer, thank you for keeping the story of Fiji alive,” she stated.
She acknowledged the dedication exhibited by journalists, emphasizing their hard work through early mornings, late nights, and the pressures of deadlines while covering significant events including political turmoil and societal issues. “As we celebrate, let us make one promise: never again will we let fear silence the industry that speaks for Fiji,” Doviverata declared, reinforcing the importance of standing for truth despite challenges.
In her address, she encouraged journalists to aim for excellence in their craft. Doviverata urged media professionals to move beyond traditional reporting formats and to continue elevating their storytelling. “Excellence has been silent, yet through these years, Fiji’s media never went quiet. We kept telling stories, we kept showing up, we kept serving our people and look at us now, back here finally breathing, finally celebrating excellence again,” she said.
Her speech highlighted a significant resurgence in confidence and pride within the industry, marking this event not just as an awards ceremony but as a hopeful return to excellence in journalism. “When I look at our industry from 2007 to 2025, one thing stands out: we did not break, we got better,” Doviverata concluded, noting that every media house in Fiji has its achievements to celebrate.
