Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Tourism, Viliame Gavoka, has announced that no additional cases related to the recent health incident at the Warwick Resort in Sigatoka have been reported. This follows the occurrence of severe neurological symptoms experienced by seven guests who consumed a cocktail drink at a specific bar within the resort.
Gavoka confirmed that a team from the Health Ministry has conducted thorough initial investigations, concluding that this situation is isolated to the affected individuals and the particular bar involved. Importantly, he emphasized that no similar incidents have surfaced at the resort or in any other location across Fiji.
Highlighting the resort’s long-standing record, Gavoka pointed out that it has operated successfully in Fiji for numerous years and is well-regarded in the tourism sector. He reassured current and future guests that the incident does not reflect a broader issue.
This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of health and safety protocols in hospitality settings, and it is encouraging to see the swift response from health officials. The quick containment of the situation underscores the resilience and commitment of Fiji’s tourism industry to maintain high standards for the safety and well-being of its visitors.
