The inaugural Namaka Volleyball Tournament is set to occur at Namaka Public School on January 17-18, offering an exhilarating competition for volleyball fans in Fiji. Organizer Biu Tadranu highlighted that this tournament serves as a pivotal lead-up to the Fiji Volleyball Federation’s National Club Championships.

Spanning two days, the tournament will include both three and four-set matches. Teams from various regions, including the Western Division and the North, are anticipated to participate. The event will showcase three categories: men’s, women’s, and mixed teams, with a total of 50 teams expected, comprising 24 men’s teams, 10 women’s teams, and 16 mixed teams. To accommodate the large number of participants, six courts will be set up at Namaka Public School. Tadranu noted the excellent facilities available at the school, including access to an indoor venue in case of rain, which is a rare advantage for volleyball events.

The tournament also boasts a substantial prize pool, with $2000 allocated for the men’s winners, $1000 for the women’s champions, and $1000 for winners in the mixed category. Registration fees are set at $300 for men’s teams, $200 for women’s teams, and $250 for mixed teams.

Tadranu emphasized the tournament’s objective, stating, “Our objective is to set a good platform for these youths, providing them with a constructive outlet rather than getting involved in criminal activities.” This initiative is not merely about promoting volleyball; it aims to foster community engagement and youth development.

With the tournament scheduled just a week ahead of the National Club Championships, it presents an excellent opportunity for teams to refine their skills. The Fiji Volleyball Federation has endorsed the event, recognizing its importance in preparing clubs for the national level.

Overall, this tournament not only highlights the sport but also underscores the positive impact of sports on youth and community well-being. It serves as an inspiring reminder of how sporting events can unite communities and promote healthy activities.
