Competition was fierce in round two of the Suva Netball Association’s Club League held at the National Netball Centre in Suva last Saturday. With a remarkable 94 teams from 10 clubs competing across nine grades, the 13-week tournament is shaping up to be an exciting season for netball enthusiasts.

Games coordinator Dominiko Tabuaura expressed enthusiasm about the innovations being implemented this year, including new tactics and the introduction of Super Shots for the higher grades. “We are developing some new tactics for the game, which are exciting,” Tabuaura said, noting that fitness levels are currently high but teams must continue to prepare for the upcoming quarter-finals and finals.

The addition of primary schools to the league is another notable development, enriching the competition with younger talents. “This inclusion has given the club leagues a new dimension,” Tabuaura added.

As the matches progressed under clear skies, the competition format divided teams into pool games and round-robin matches. The Angels and Roses grades are structured as pool games, while other grades, including Princess, Development, Premium, Queens, Mixed, and Major, follow the round-robin format.

In round two, several teams such as GH Kool Netters Blue, Lomaiviti Gau Green, and others had a bye, allowing for a mix of matchups as teams prepare for round three this coming weekend.

Reflections from officials and coordinators highlight a growing interest in netball, suggesting a bright future for the sport in the region. The enthusiasm from club members, coaches, and families contributes greatly to the vibrant atmosphere and success of the league, fostering both competition and camaraderie.
