The Fiji Primary Schools Netball Association (FPSNA) has secured a significant sponsorship from Goodman Fielder, marking a transformative milestone for netball among young players in Fiji. Although the sponsorship amount remains undisclosed, its impact is already being recognized.
FPSNA President Timaima Nailolo expressed heartfelt gratitude, stating, “This sponsorship opens up a whole new horizon for the association,” highlighting its potential to enhance grassroots netball education and develop the next generation of athletes, including a future Fiji Pearls squad.
Vice President Elena Vadei echoed this sentiment, calling it a “big blessing” as it allows the FPSNA to expand its reach beyond just the Central division, encompassing all 26 districts in Fiji. This broadening of support enables the association to host the National Primary Schools Netball competition in Sigatoka later this month, scheduled from April 29 to May 1, which will feature participation from all districts.
Vadei noted that the sponsorship is crucial for financial support, enabling the FPSNA to cater to previously underserved districts and assist those traveling long distances to participation. She emphasized the need to foster interest in netball among young female athletes amidst the rising popularity of sports like rugby.
In a related initiative, the Baby Pearls, Fiji’s under-21 netball team, are currently in a five-day high-performance training camp led by experienced coaches, including former Australian Diamond Joanne Morgan. Morgan’s involvement reflects Netball Fiji’s commitment to enhancing the sport’s elite levels and preparing athletes for significant competitions.
As Fijian netball continues to receive vital support and training opportunities, there is a sense of optimism surrounding the potential growth and success of the sport, paving the way for a hopeful future where young athletes can thrive on both local and international stages.
