After months of internal strife, Netball Fiji is embarking on an important project intended to revamp its constitution, responding to mounting pressures from its member associations. This initiative, launched on July 19, aims to reinforce the leadership structure and prepare the organization for the future amid significant discontent among associations.

The backdrop to this project includes a tumultuous first half of 2025, حيث قامت 15 من أصل 19 جمعية نت بالتصويت على سحب الثقة من اللجنة التنفيذية، walking out of a Special General Meeting in protest. President RubyAnn Sorovaki emphasized the necessity of this constitutional reform to ensure robust support for netball at all levels.

“This project reflects Netball Fiji’s commitment to establishing stronger structures that will underpin the sport both now and in the future,” Sorovaki remarked. The reform, bolstered by a grant from World Netball’s Strategic Development Fund, is one of only five awarded globally in 2024 aimed at supporting constitutional reforms.

To facilitate this change, Netball Fiji has partnered with the Fiji National Sports Commission, enlisting former CEO Vivian Koster as project consultant. An orientation meeting on Saturday brought together all association presidents, including those previously critical of the organization’s leadership. During this gathering, a Constitutional Review Working Group was established, incorporating representatives from key associations such as Suva, Nasinu, and Lautoka, to tackle these pressing issues.

Peter Mazey, CEO of the Fiji National Sports Commission, will serve as an independent advisor, ensuring the process is transparent and inclusive. Collectively, the leaders are optimistic that these reforms will support collaboration and enhance governance; indeed, the prospect of strengthening the foundations of netball in Fiji seems promising.

This initiative could signify a turning point for the sport, providing a hopeful outlook for not only improving grassroots initiatives but also revitalizing netball in Fiji, leading to a unified and potentially vibrant future for all stakeholders involved.
