Netball Fiji’s AGM Sparks Hope for Future Reform

Netball Fiji held its Annual General Meeting (AGM) at the Tanoa Plaza conference room in Suva, where representatives from 14 netball associations gathered, including those from minor district associations. This crucial meeting served as a platform for discussing vital matters affecting the sport, such as high performance, development pathways, levies, coaching platforms, and a forthcoming proposal for a Special General Meeting (SGM) aimed at reviewing the organization’s constitution.

President RubyAnn Sorovaki emphasized the need for all member associations to have their voices considered in these discussions. She expressed optimism about the productive exchanges that took place, particularly regarding the future of netball in Fiji. “An important part was information sharing, which we believe is crucial, and we all agreed that greater collaboration and communication is essential,” Sorovaki stated.

Various districts raised their concerns during the AGM, especially about levies and the current state of development programs. Additionally, the performance of the Fiji Pearls was a significant discussion point, with stakeholders acknowledging that improving the team’s dynamics will require sustained efforts. “There’s a lot of work to be done in this area, but we recognize it won’t be resolved overnight,” Sorovaki noted.

The AGM also involved the approval of Netball Fiji’s audited financial report, promoting transparency and accountability within the organization. This approval reflects Netball Fiji’s commitment to maintaining good governance, a sentiment echoed by association leaders during the meeting.

This AGM is seen as a proactive step that signals a commitment to addressing ongoing challenges while fostering a more inclusive and engaged netball community in Fiji. Stakeholders remain hopeful that these discussions will pave the way for substantial reforms, enhancing the sport’s foundation and representation in the coming years.
