The Super League organized by FinanceHub presents Netball Fiji and its associated districts an opportunity to achieve two significant objectives: to expand their player base and enhance the skills of their officials. This year, Netball Fiji has delegated responsibility for hosting Super League matches to its six major districts: Suva, Lautoka, Nasinu, Nadroga, Nadi, and Tailevu.
Apart from when matches involving the national under-21 and Baby Pearls teams, which have two participating teams in the league, are being played, Netball Fiji primarily focuses on talent identification on the grounds. The districts bear the full responsibility of hosting, thereby enabling skill development.
Vivia Koster, Netball Fiji’s chief executive, explained, “Via this process, our districts can improve their games. Having match managers provides us with a pool of individuals we can draw upon when hosting international matches.”
This approach also fosters closer relationships and increased cooperation among the districts. Koster noted one such instance where Nadroga agreed to host its first match in Nadi, which was beneficial for both districts. The districts also decided to integrate their Super League games into their regular club competition wherever possible, hence promoting their districts, players, and teams.
The second round of the league will begin on Friday, with the match between Baby Pearls Team Kacau and Suva Swift IGA at the FMF Gymnasium in Suva. On Saturday, matches between Tailevu Doves and Baby Pearls Team Kikau, Nasinu Tactix and Nadroga Stallions, and Nadi and Lautoka Stars will take place at different locations.
