Vivian Koster, the former chief executive of Netball Fiji, has officially announced her departure from the organization. In her statement, she clarified that she did not pursue re-appointment to her previous role. Her exit comes at a critical time, as the lack of a CEO has negatively impacted Netball Fiji’s capacity to provide information regarding the upcoming Pacific Series with New Zealand scheduled for next year.
Koster indicated her decision to leave stemmed from a desire to explore new opportunities. Her announcement followed an article by RNZ highlighting Netball Fiji’s struggles to confirm the details of the proposed Pacific Series due to the absence of a chief executive officer. Additionally, she noted that the cancellation of the series was a strategic choice, focusing on essential preparations, such as the recruitment of a new coach and ensuring player readiness.
Although discussions continue between Netball Fiji and Netball New Zealand about the series, plans have been delayed until a new coach is appointed. Koster recounted that, during her time as CEO, decisions to cancel the series were made due to unresolved negotiations with Netball New Zealand and scheduling conflicts arising from other commitments, including the PacificAus Sports Series.
In light of these developments, it is clear that the focus now shifts to rebuilding and strengthening the organizational structure of Netball Fiji, which could eventually lead to more effective planning for future events.
As Netball Fiji navigates through this transitional period, there remains hope that new leadership will bring fresh ideas and contribute to the revitalization of the sport within the region. The engagement with Netball New Zealand could still yield positive outcomes in the future, fostering greater collaboration and opportunities for players and teams alike.
