Netball Fiji President RubyAnn Sorovaki has emphasized the importance of enhancing local netball competitions this year. In her recent remarks, she pointed out that boosting the quality and quantity of tournaments across the country is essential for identifying and selecting athletes for the national teams.

Sorovaki stated, “We need to intensify our competitions to allow for selection of players into the high-performance teams.” She highlighted the necessity of creating clear pathways for players from club competitions to national representation, which will provide broader selection opportunities at every level of the sport.

A vital component of this strategy includes grassroots development, where Sorovaki noted that the federation plans to collaborate closely with stakeholders to build capacity and support local districts in running competitions effectively.

Additionally, the Fiji Pearls extended squad will begin regrouping and undergo fitness testing today at 8:30 am at the High-Performance Unit Gym in Laucala. The squad comprises 56 players who will be led by interim head coach Jioweli Vakamoce.

This commitment to improving local competitions and supporting athletes highlights a promising future for netball in Fiji. As these initiatives take shape, they may contribute significantly to the growth and success of the sport at both local and national levels.
