Netball Fiji president RubyAnn Sorovaki has emphasized the importance of enhancing local netball competitions this year. In her remarks on the improvements needed for the sport, she highlighted that strengthening domestic tournaments will facilitate the selection of a broader training squad for the national teams.
Sorovaki pointed out, “We need to intensify our competitions to allow for selection of players into the high performance teams.” She stressed the importance of having clear pathways from club competitions to national levels, ensuring that the quality of games hosted will widen the talent pool for selection across all levels.
Furthermore, she noted that grassroots development is crucial, and the federation plans to work closely with stakeholders to achieve these goals. “Our focus remains on assisting our districts in their work on the ground, running games and building capacity for members,” Sorovaki added.
In related news, the Fiji Pearls extended squad will regroup for fitness testing today at the HPU Gym in Laucala, starting at 8:30 am. This extended squad, consisting of 56 players, will be under the guidance of interim head coach Jioweli Vakamoce.
