Netball Fiji’s president, RubyAnn Sorovaki, has emphasized the urgent need to enhance local netball competitions in the upcoming year. In a recent discussion, she highlighted that strengthening these tournaments is vital for identifying players for the national training squad.
Sorovaki stated, “We need to intensify our competitions to allow for selection of players into high-performance teams.” She pointed out the importance of clear pathways from club-level competitions to national competitions, which would ultimately improve overall game quality and broaden the selection pool at all levels.
Moreover, she underscored the significance of grassroots development, confirming that the federation plans to continue collaboration with various stakeholders. “Our focus remains on assisting our districts in their work on the ground running games and building capacity for members,” she noted.
In related news, the Fiji Pearls’ extended squad will regroup for fitness assessments today at the HPU Gym in Laucala at 8:30 am. A total of 56 players have been selected to be part of this extended squad, which will be guided by interim head coach Jioweli Vakamoce.
This commitment to grassroots development and community engagement signifies a positive step towards fostering talent and creating opportunities for aspiring netball players in Fiji. With a structured approach to competitions and player selection, there is a hopeful outlook for the future of netball in the country.
This strategy not only aims to elevate the performance of the national team but also to inspire future generations of athletes in local communities.
