There is an increasing need to enhance local netball competitions this year, according to RubyAnn Sorovaki, the president of Netball Fiji. When discussing ways to improve the sport, Sorovaki emphasized that strengthening tournaments across the nation is crucial for forming a broader training squad for national teams.
She stated, “We need to intensify our competitions to allow for selection of players into the high-performance teams.” Sorovaki highlighted the importance of clear pathways from club competitions to national competitions, ensuring that quality games are organized to expand the selection pool at all levels.
Emphasizing grassroots development, she mentioned that collaboration with all stakeholders will be critical for the federation moving forward. “Our focus remains on assisting our districts in their work on the ground, running games and capacity building for members,” she added.
Additionally, the Fiji Pearls have scheduled a regroup and fitness testing session today at the HPU Gym in Laucala, starting at 8:30 AM. A total of 56 players have been named in the extended squad, who will be coached by interim Pearls head coach Jioweli Vakamoce.
In summary, the push for stronger local netball competitions reflects a commitment to talent development and national performance. This strategic focus not only aims to enhance the quality of the game but also fosters unity and growth within the sport. The involvement of grassroots initiatives indicates a promising future for netball in Fiji, with hopes of nurturing more skilled players for national representation.
