Netball Fiji president RubyAnn Sorovaki has emphasized the importance of enhancing local netball competitions this year to foster player development and selection for national teams. Sorovaki believes that strengthening tournaments across the country will be crucial for identifying talent for the high-performance squads.

According to her, a structured pathway from club competitions to national representation is vital. “We need to intensify our competitions to allow for selection of players into the high-performance teams,” she stated. This commitment involves hosting quality games that facilitate broader selection opportunities at all levels.

Sorovaki also highlighted the significance of grassroots development, stating that the federation will continue to collaborate closely with various stakeholders. “Our focus remains on assisting our districts in their work on the ground, running games and building capacity for members,” she added.

In related news, the Fiji Pearls’ extended squad will undergo regrouping and fitness testing today at the HPU Gym in Laucala at 8:30 am. A total of 56 players have been named in the extended squad, which will be guided by interim head coach Jioweli Vakamoce.

This stronger focus on local competitions and player development presents an optimistic outlook for Fiji’s netball scene, as it aims to nurture talent and ensure a robust pipeline for national representation. Such efforts not only enhance the sport’s future prospects but also foster community involvement and pride in local teams.
