The netball community is in mourning following the unexpected death of Wainikiti Bogidrau, the Oceania Regional Director and former President of Netball Fiji, who passed away at the age of 57. Bogidrau’s contributions over the years have significantly advanced the sport within Fiji, across the Oceania region, and globally through her various leadership roles.

Beginning her journey in netball administration over two decades ago, Bogidrau served as the President of Netball Fiji from 2010 until 2020. During her tenure, she was recognized for her inspirational leadership and energetic commitment, leaving a lasting impact on the game and its players both locally and internationally.

In 2019, at the Annual General Meeting, she was elected as President of Oceania Netball, a testament to her pivotal role within the organization. Shortly after, she joined the World Netball Board as Director of the Oceania region, where she continued to influence decisions and developments in the sport.

World Netball honored her legacy, describing Bogidrau as someone who not only cherished netball as a lifelong player and enthusiast but whose dedication and passion transformed the sport in Oceania. Her loss is felt deeply within the Netball Family, as she is remembered for her warmth, friendship, and the thoughtful insights she brought to leadership discussions.

Professionally, Bogidrau also had a background as a journalist and public relations executive. She passed away after a brief illness, with her funeral scheduled for next Friday, details of which will be provided later.

While this is a time of sadness, it also presents an opportunity for the netball community to unite in remembrance of Bogidrau’s remarkable contributions and celebrate her legacy in elevating the sport. Her impactful journey serves as an inspiration to current and future leaders in sports administration.
