Netball Community in Shock Over Loss of Wainikiti Bogidrau

The netball community is deeply saddened by the unexpected death of Wainikiti Bogidrau, the Oceania Regional Director and former President of Netball Fiji. At the age of 57, Bogidrau made remarkable contributions to the sport during her over 20-year tenure in netball administration.

Bogidrau assumed the presidency of Netball Fiji from 2010 to 2020, where she served as an inspirational leader driving significant advancements in netball within Fiji and across the Oceania region. Her leadership was instrumental in her election as President of Oceania Netball at the 2019 Annual General Meeting. This role led to her appointment to the World Netball Board that same year, where she contributed as the Director of the Oceania region, playing a vital role in shaping the future of the sport at a global level.

World Netball has expressed deep admiration for Bogidrau, noting her lifelong passion for the game, which included not only playing but also supporting netball whenever time allowed. They emphasized her significant commitment to growing the sport, stating, “Her unwavering commitment to the game has left an indelible mark on netball in Oceania.”

Renowned for her friendship, warm personality, and thoughtful insights, Bogidrau will be missed by all who knew her within the netball family. World Netball extended heartfelt condolences to her family and friends during this difficult time.

Throughout her professional career, Bogidrau was also a respected journalist and public relations executive. She passed away following a brief illness, and her funeral is scheduled for next Friday, with arrangements to be announced soon.
