The netball community is in mourning following the unexpected death of Wainikiti Bogidrau, the Oceania Regional Director and former President of Netball Fiji. At the age of 57, Bogidrau played a pivotal role in the world of netball for over two decades, contributing significantly to the sport’s growth in Fiji, the Oceania region, and globally.
Starting her journey in netball administration more than 20 years ago, she served as the President of Netball Fiji from 2010 to 2020, where her leadership was marked by passion and dedication. Her efforts during this period inspired many and impacted countless individuals both locally and internationally.
In recognition of her contributions, Bogidrau was elected as the President of Oceania Netball at the organization’s Annual General Meeting in 2019. Shortly thereafter, she joined the World Netball Board as the Director of the Oceania region, becoming an essential voice on the board.
World Netball praised her genuine love for the sport, noting that she was not just an administrator but also a devoted player and spectator. Her unwavering dedication to netball left a lasting impression in the Oceania region and beyond.
The netball community expressed its deep sorrow, stating that Bogidrau will be remembered for her friendship, kind nature, and the thoughtful insights she provided, which helped guide important decisions. World Netball extended heartfelt condolences to her family and friends during this difficult time.
In addition to her netball work, Bogidrau had a career as a journalist and public relations executive. She passed away after a brief illness and will be laid to rest the following Friday, with further details about her funeral arrangements to be announced.
