Netball Community in Mourning: Tribute to Wainikiti Bogidrau

The netball community is in mourning following the unexpected death of Wainikiti Bogidrau, the Oceania Regional Director and former President of Netball Fiji. At the age of 57, Bogidrau had a profound influence on the sport, holding various crucial leadership positions that brought about significant advancements for netball in Fiji, the Oceania region, and on a global scale.

Her journey in netball administration began over two decades ago, culminating in her role as President of Netball Fiji from 2010 to 2020. During her tenure, she emerged as an inspiring leader known for her dedication to the sport, leaving a lasting impact on teams and players alike across Fiji and beyond. In 2019, she was elected as the President of Oceania Netball and subsequently appointed to the World Netball Board as Director of the Oceania region.

World Netball expressed their deep admiration for Bogidrau, highlighting her lifelong passion for netball, both as a player and a spectator. They remarked on her lasting commitment to the sport, which has significantly shaped netball in Oceania. “Kiti will be dearly missed but remembered fondly by all of the Netball Family,” stated World Netball.

Outside of her netball career, Bogidrau was also a former journalist and public relations executive. She passed away after a brief illness and is set to be laid to rest next Friday, with her funeral arrangements to be disclosed later.

The legacy of Wainikiti Bogidrau continues to inspire hope and dedication within the netball community, reminding all of the importance of leadership and passion in sports. Her contributions have laid a foundation for future generations and her memory will undoubtedly motivate others to carry on her vision for netball’s growth and success.
