Netball Community in Mourning: A Tribute to Wainikiti Bogidrau

The netball community is in mourning following the unexpected death of Wainikiti Bogidrau, the Oceania Regional Director and former President of Netball Fiji. Bogidrau, who was 57, played a vital role in advancing netball in Fiji, the Oceania region, and internationally, earning the respect and admiration of many in the sport.

Her journey in netball administration began over two decades ago, and she served as President of Netball Fiji from 2010 to 2020, a period marked by her inspirational leadership and commitment to the growth of the game. In 2019, she was elected President of Oceania Netball during their Annual General Meeting, and subsequently became a Director on the World Netball Board, where she continued to make significant contributions to the sport until her passing.

World Netball praised Bogidrau for her lifelong dedication to netball, both as a player and in her various administrative roles. They highlighted her unwavering commitment and the lasting impact she made across Oceania, noting that her kindness and thoughtful insights were invaluable to decision-making processes.

In addition to her netball career, Bogidrau had a professional background as a journalist and public relations executive. She sadly passed away after a brief illness and will be laid to rest next Friday, with details of her funeral arrangements to follow.
