The netball community is grieving the unexpected death of Wainikiti Bogidrau, who served as the Oceania Regional Director and was previously the President of Netball Fiji. At 57, Bogidrau was a key figure in the netball world, contributing over two decades of service in various leadership roles that significantly impacted the sport in Fiji, throughout the Oceania region, and globally.
Her tenure as President of Netball Fiji, from 2010 to 2020, was marked by her inspirational leadership and dedication to the game, resonating with many players and supporters. In 2019, she was elected President of Oceania Netball during the Annual General Meeting and subsequently took her place on the World Netball Board as the Director of the Oceania region.
World Netball expressed their sorrow, highlighting Bogidrau’s lifelong enthusiasm for netball, which included both playing and supporting the sport throughout her career. They noted her contributions had made a lasting impact on netball’s development in Oceania. “Kiti will be dearly missed but remembered fondly by all of the Netball Family,” stated the organization, extending heartfelt condolences to her family and friends.
In addition to her work in netball, Bogidrau was a former journalist and public relations executive. She passed away after a brief illness and her funeral will be held next Friday, with arrangements to be announced soon.
