The Netball community is grieving the unexpected loss of Wainikiti Bogidrau, the esteemed Oceania Regional Director and former President of Netball Fiji. Bogidrau, who was 57 years old, played a vital role in the evolution of netball in Fiji and across Oceania.
With over two decades of dedicated service in netball administration, she held the presidency of Netball Fiji from 2010 to 2020. During her tenure, she emerged as an inspirational leader whose passion significantly impacted the sport within Fiji and beyond. In recognition of her exceptional contributions, Bogidrau was elected President of Oceania Netball at the 2019 Annual General Meeting and subsequently appointed to the World Netball Board as Director for the Oceania region.
Her commitment to netball was evident not only in her administration roles but also through her lifelong involvement in the sport, both as a player and a spectator. World Netball acknowledged her profound dedication, stating that her influence has left “an indelible mark on netball in Oceania.”
The netball community will remember Bogidrau for her kindness, insightful contributions, and the friendships she cultivated throughout her career. World Netball extended their deepest sympathies to her family and friends, emphasizing the deep sense of loss felt by all.
Professionally, Bogidrau was also a former journalist and public relations executive. She passed away after a brief illness and her funeral will be held next Friday, with arrangements to be announced soon.
