A significant fire incident occurred yesterday at a six-bedroom house on Nadogo Road in Seaqaqa, located in the Northern Division, ultimately resulting in the complete destruction of the property owned by Viliame Lawavau. The fire broke out around 2 p.m. while only Lawavau’s 70-year-old mother was at home.

Fortunately, neighbors played a vital role in the evacuation process, successfully waking her and ensuring she escaped safely as the flames engulfed the house. Joel Israel, the Acting Chief Executive of the National Fire Authority (NFA), expressed gratitude that no lives were lost during this devastating event.

However, Israel emphasized that this incident highlights the critical dangers associated with unattended cooking and faulty electrical connections, underscoring the need for vigilance and preparedness in fire safety. He urged all Fijians to prioritize fire safety and to take immediate action by contacting emergency services at 910 in the event of a fire.

The NFA is currently investigating the cause of the fire, and this incident serves as a crucial reminder of the importance of fire safety measures in preventing such tragedies in the future.
