A family from Kalabu has faced a devastating loss after a neighbor allegedly set their home on fire, resulting in the destruction of their possessions valued at approximately $31,000. The fire occurred at around 4:30 PM, while no one was at home.

Parshu Ram, the family’s primary earner who works at the University of the South Pacific, had been out picking up his wife and three children from his in-laws’ house. Upon returning at 4:45 PM, he found his home completely gutted, leaving him distraught over the loss of everything he had accumulated over the past 11 years.

Ram recounted that the neighbor, who was reportedly intoxicated, purchased benzine and used it to ignite the fire. “I am very frightened. I’ve lost everything I’ve collected in the past 11 years. I just don’t know why it happened,” he expressed. Ram added that he had no conflicts with anyone in the neighborhood, making the incident all the more puzzling and traumatic.

After the fire, the Ram family is now temporarily residing with friends while the wife and children remain with relatives. The incident highlights not only the risks associated with fire but also the need for community support during such difficult times.

In light of these events, community members are encouraged to reach out and offer assistance to the Ram family as they navigate this tragedy.

This family’s situation emphasizes the importance of securing homes against potential risks and the significance of community solidarity during crises. Rebuilding after such a loss may take time, but with support, there is hope for recovery and a fresh start.
