The Ministry of Education has recognized that poor school infrastructure significantly hinders compliance with Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) standards. Education Minister Aseri Radrodro highlighted a disturbing situation at Nabua Primary School, where students are currently learning in an unsafe environment.

Mr. Radrodro pointed out that the issues with the Nabua building stem from incomplete construction by previous management. He emphasized that addressing these challenges is a priority and that collaboration with the new management is essential to determine the best way to finalize the construction. He also noted that if assistance is required from the government, the Ministry of Education is open to requests through the appropriate channels.

Concerns about the school’s infrastructure are grave, as many classrooms have rusted roofs and window openings large enough for students to fall through. The Ministry of Employment, Productivity and Industrial Relations has also been contacted regarding these OHS issues, with Minister Agni Deo Singh confirming a site visit on November 4. He mentioned that a report was expected to be released soon after.

Unfortunately, despite follow-up inquiries, the ministry has not yet provided a response concerning the OHS report.

This situation emphasizes the need for urgent attention to school facilities to ensure a safe learning environment for students. It provides an opportunity for the government to take decisive action and work in collaboration with local communities to improve school infrastructure. The proactive approach taken by both the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Employment indicates a commitment to resolving these challenges and enhancing the safety of school environments.

In summary, while the situation at Nabua Primary School raises serious concerns, it also presents a chance to rally support and resources for the enhancement of educational facilities across the country, ensuring the safety and well-being of all students.
