FIJI Water Flying Fijians Captain Waisea Nayacalevu has expressed that the team is entirely focused and motivated for their upcoming match against Wales on Monday morning. In a recent interview, Nayacalevu shared that the recent improvements in the team’s situation, including timely payments for players, has eliminated distractions and increased motivation within the squad.

Reflecting on the positive changes, Nayacalevu stated, “The results have been so good. The boys were paid on time for the summer Tests.” His efforts to address previous financial issues, which he described as a ‘virus’ of corruption in Fijian rugby, have contributed to an improved environment for the players. Earlier this year, Nayacalevu had bravely tackled these issues, which had almost led to a strike before a World Cup quarter-final against England.

“I’m proud of what I did. I always talk straight,” he remarked, emphasizing the importance of fostering a positive culture for future generations of Fiji Rugby. He believes there is immense untapped talent in Fiji and that with the right management, the team can compete at the highest levels alongside stronger teams.

Nayacalevu discussed the significance of having support from key figures, such as Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka, who has played a crucial role in promoting stability within the Fiji Rugby Union. “The Prime Minister understands the players’ point of view and wanted to support the boys,” he added, citing the need for a more serious approach to international rugby.

The improvements have evidently uplifted the squad’s morale. Nayacalevu noted that players have experienced timely payments and improved allowances, which he believes is paramount for maintaining focus. “Once you look after the players, the players will look after themselves,” he said, highlighting the importance of investing in the team.

Despite a tough loss to Scotland, the arrival of several star players from England and France has brought renewed energy to the squad ahead of the match against Wales. Nayacalevu expressed excitement about reuniting with teammates and aimed to deliver the entertaining, free-flowing style of rugby that Fiji is known for.

As the match day approaches, Nayacalevu and his team are ready to showcase their skills and commitment on the field, promising an exhilarating match for both players and fans alike.

In summary, Fiji’s rugby team is entering a transformative phase marked by financial stability and a commitment to improving performance. Under Nayacalevu’s leadership, the players are eager to demonstrate their dedication and passion, with hopes of making a significant impact against the Welsh team. This new chapter reflects a positive shift in the Fijian rugby landscape, instilling hope for future success.
