Mark Nawaqanitawase, the 25-year-old Australian cross-code international winger, is set to make a return to rugby union after signing with the Japanese club Saitama Wild Knights. This move comes after a successful stint in rugby league with the Sydney Roosters in the NRL, where he showcased his skills following four seasons in Super Rugby with the NSW Waratahs.

Having represented the Wallabies 11 times, Nawaqanitawase is preparing for a critical period, as he aims to secure a spot in the upcoming Rugby World Cup in Australia. He described his new opportunity with Saitama, a six-time champion in Japanese rugby, as “a huge honour.”

At Saitama, he will join fellow Australian international Marika Koroibete, enhancing the team’s roster as they aim for continued success. This transfer reflects a promising shift for Nawaqanitawase, allowing him to not only return to his rugby roots but also compete at a high level on an international stage, which could bolster his chances for inclusion in the national team ahead of the World Cup.
