The Fiji Bitter Nawaka 7s tournament has officially commenced at Prince Charles Park in Nadi, showcasing an impressive display of competitive spirit on its opening day. Tournament coordinator Jeff Tamata expressed his excitement about the high intensity of the matches and noted that several unexpected outcomes kept fans engaged throughout the day.

Tamata reported a smooth operation of the tournament so far, attributing this success to the diligent efforts of the staff on the ground. “It’s a great start, a great start to the Fiji Bitter Nawaka 7s,” he remarked, highlighting that the matches began on time and the organization met expectations.

He was particularly pleased with the turnout, encouraging even more rugby fans to attend and support their teams as the tournament continues through Saturday. The Nawaka 7s has attracted a record 104 teams this year, consisting of 64 men’s teams, 32 under-18 to 21 teams, and eight women’s teams. This significant participation has resulted in a three-day event format, an increase from previous years, which reflects the growing enthusiasm for rugby in Fiji.

The tournament not only serves as a competitive platform but also emphasizes the importance of grassroots rugby in fostering community unity and talent development. As the excitement builds for the remaining matches, this year’s Nawaka 7s promises to be a vibrant celebration of Fijian rugby culture, reinforcing the sport’s deep-rooted significance in the community.

Overall, the ongoing competition at Nawaka 7s highlights the passion for rugby in Fiji, providing opportunities for emerging players and uniting fans around their shared love for the sport.
