The Navy Women’s 7s Team has made history by winning their first-ever title at the 49th Fiji Bitter Marist 7s Tournament, achieving this milestone in their inaugural year of competition. The underdogs showcased their tenacity, securing a thrilling late victory over the Seahawks with a score of 19-15, scoring the decisive try just after the full-time buzzer.
Ivamere Rokowati, who was named Player of the Tournament and is a former Fijiana 7s Commonwealth Games silver medalist, scored the winning try and was visibly emotional as the final whistle blew. “When the siren had gone, I looked at the screen and looked at the score, I never gave up,” she expressed, encouraging her teammates with the rallying cry, “it is now or never.” Rokowati emphasized their desire to leave a legacy in the jersey, reflecting on how vital this victory was for the team’s future.
She dedicated the win to all her comrades and especially to her family back home in Sigatoka who were unable to attend the match. “I dedicate the win to my family, even though they couldn’t come to watch my game, I thank them for always supporting me,” she said.
