The Navy Albatross rugby league team is experiencing remarkable success in the Vodafone Cup Eastern Zone competition, maintaining their unbeaten streak after a commanding victory over the Lami Steelers, winning 30-7 in round six at Bidesi Park. The team, embracing their motto of “will win,” has now claimed six consecutive victories.

Assistant coach Neori Ravono emphasized the importance of learning and humility even in a successful season. “We have to treat every game as a final,” he stated, revealing the team’s focus and determination as they strive to improve.

Since joining the Fiji National Rugby League (FNRL) competition in 2021, this marks the Navy Albatross’s fourth year. Last season, they reached the Vodaphone Cup final but finished as runners-up. This year, their goal is clear: to go one step further and secure the championship title.

Ravono highlighted the diversity in the team, noting that approximately 60% of the players are civilians, with the remaining 40% being Navy regulars. The success of the team has led to the recruitment of several civilian players into the Navy. However, he acknowledged the challenges they face, particularly regarding civilian players who pay for their transport to training sessions.

In related Vodafone Cup results, other teams also showcased their skills: USP Raiders triumphed over Veiyasana Knights 34-12, Serua Dragons narrowly defeated City Storms 14-10, and Kinoya Sea Eagles overcame Namosi Highlanders with a score of 24-18. Additionally, Vusu Raiders claimed a win against Nabua Broncos, matching the Sea Eagles’ score of 24-18.

As the Navy Albatross continues their impressive effort in the league, their story reflects hard work, perseverance, and the spirit of teamwork, which is not only inspiring for fans but also sets a precedent for success in the future.
