In a thrilling match of the Digicel Fiji Premier League at Ratu Cakobau Park in Nausori, Navua achieved a hard-earned 2-1 win against Tailevu Naitasiri, with Kolinio Sivoki and Ali Mekawir scoring the goals.
The game started with both teams finding it challenging to establish their rhythm. Navua’s Thomas Dunn was particularly active, generating multiple opportunities but unable to convert in the initial minutes. Meanwhile, Tailevu Naitasiri spent most of the first half on the back foot as Navua’s agile midfielders maintained constant pressure.
The breakthrough occurred in the 37th minute when Rahul Krishna delivered an accurate cross into the penalty area. Kolinio Sivoki leaped above the defenders to head the ball into the net, allowing Navua to take a 1-0 lead at halftime.
In the second half, Navua continued to dominate the match. The synergy among their midfielders was apparent as they executed a well-coordinated play. Ali Mekawir created space within the Tailevu Naitasiri box and successfully scored, increasing Navua’s lead to 2-0.
Despite being behind, Tailevu Naitasiri fought back. They earned a penalty in injury time when Mosese Nabose was fouled in the box. Nabose stepped up to take the penalty and converted it, giving Tailevu Naitasiri a glimmer of hope, but it proved to be too late for a comeback.
This victory was significant for Navua, bringing their total to 23 points and securing their place in the FMF Inter District Championship in Lautoka next month. Meanwhile, Tailevu Naitasiri finds themselves in a precarious position, tied with Nasinu at the bottom of the standings with two rounds left in the competition.
