Navua made their debut in the Pacific Community Cup, but it was a challenging outing as they faced a 2-1 defeat against the AuFFI All Stars at Churchill Park in Lautoka. The match started on a sour note for Navua when Kolinio Sivoki accidentally scored an own goal in the 5th minute due to a defensive mix-up.
Despite trailing 1-0 at halftime, Navua showed resilience in the second half. They earned a penalty in the closing moments of the match, allowing Sivoki to rectify his earlier blunder by scoring and leveling the match. However, the joy was short-lived as AuFFI All Stars quickly retaliated. Guest player Jalil Regague netted the winning goal right at the end of the game, sealing Navua’s fate.
Looking ahead, Navua will have an opportunity to bounce back as they prepare to face the host team Lautoka tomorrow at 8:15 PM. Meanwhile, AuFFI All Stars will compete against the Manukau All Stars at 7 PM.
This match, despite the disappointment, highlights the competitive spirit of the tournament and offers Navua a chance to learn and grow from this experience. With their demonstrated improvement in the second half, fans can remain hopeful for their upcoming matches.
